Hello

"I am a firm believer that the most effective therapy occurs when you experience a genuine connection with your therapist. Allow me to introduce myself."

My Story

Like many people, I grew up in an environment where my parents had their own stuff going on. Children were to be neither seen nor heard. As an “invisible child,” there was no safe place to recognize emotions and I never learned skills to process the adult "stuff" around me. I started out in elementary school as a below-average student and, although school was a slightly better environment, I never received any meaningful mentorship or attention.

Then one day in the back hallway of the health unit where I was working as a public health nurse, a casual conversation changed my life. A colleague invited me to an introductory workshop for Integrative Body Psychotherapy (IBP). I learned how my life's experiences shaped my personality and how I experience life. That was in 2004, and I have been learning, studying, assistant-teaching & practicing IBP ever since.

Because IBP requires their therapists to do their own therapy, I learned IBP from the inside-out. I learned to understand myself, my quirks and how childhood became "wired" in my nervous system and body. I continue, even today, to do my own work and to walk the talk of IBP.

In masters’ studies, I learned many models and types of counselling. I searched other sciences and read hundreds – no, thousands – of studies. Always, always adding to my depth of practice. I can honestly say I know the scientific validity of the counselling I bring to you. And I know, from the inside out, it’s compassionate, safe, meaningful work that can be life-changing.

My nursing experience of 25 years has been with new families, so I have a depth of experience in pregnancy & perinatal adjustment, attachment & bonding and the massive adjustments to family life. I also loved working with youth in school programs and in a sexual health clinic. I spent a few years as a sexual assault nurse examiner and so am familiar with trauma and sexual violence as well as trauma from domestic violence. Because I grew up in a home with domestic violence, I know domestic violence from the inside-out. I experienced psychological violence in the workplace (bullying), and know, from the inside-out, how devastating it is to health & happiness.

I have experienced challenges in my life. Today, I am healthy and happy, thanks to therapy. I believe everyone deserves to understand how life has shaped them and how we can choose our own life.

What do those letters mean?

If you’re like most people, you’ll need a safe space and safe person to do your work. The things you bring for therapy are some of your deepest, darkest moments, secrets, and events that may have resulted in anxiety, anger, depression, PTSD and various diagnoses. It's important to know that your therapist operates under ethical & educational standards.
